Water Can Damage Our Hills And Cause Mudslides
By Aydan Corkern

When we have severe fires with a lot of water being dropped on it by airlines or nature, not only is there damage but it leaves the soil unprotected from other problems. If you have a lot of land stripped of its trees because of these fires with this land becoming exposed to heavy rains, you will have the next problem called mudslides. As this ground is unsteady from all of the uprooted trees in a rain storm, this ground will begin to shift and start running down these hills.

This mud will keep going picking up speed to stop at whatever is in its path. Usually there are homes and cars with the likelihood of our cars being moved along this path until the mud stops. This mud is heavy and will cover all that is in its path depending on how high the hill is and how far the mudslide had traveled. This mudslide can become so bad that it will cause the city officials to have to close roads or even have to evacuate people that might live in the path to make sure that they don't lose their lives.

A lot of times, we aren't able to replant these trees before a heavy rain would happen again. If we had the time to do this, we would be able to prevent these mudslides from maybe happening at all. This is why it is so important for us to be replanting the trees that we cut down as they help in keeping the ground solid. These trees help put back oxygen in the air we breathe by taking in the old bad air and letting out this oxygen.

We have done a lot of stripping of our land in regards to our trees, and in a lot of places, these trees weren't replaced until the problems of mudslides became an issue. These trees are not only a beautiful thing to look at in the spring and fall months of the year, but they are the homes of many of our small creatures that live on this planet and the food supply for many of our larger animals who feed off of their leaves. They also provide protection for our deer population and the other animals when their hunting seasons are in full swing as these animals will hide from the hunters view by going further into the woods.
